Today is known as Administrative Professionals Day, and today I give thanks for one of the quiet pillars of our shared ministry: Diana Miller-Bur.
In my ministry, there are countless moving pieces…meetings that overlap, conversations that require care, decisions that need clarity, and communications that must reach people where they are. Diana stands at the center of that ministry, helping me to hold it all together with remarkable skill, wisdom, and grace.
She has a gift for helping me, and all of us, stay grounded and focused. She gently but consistently guides the rhythm of the day, making sure one meeting transitions into the next with intention and purpose. That kind of presence is not always visible, but it is deeply felt. Because of Diana, my work is not only more organized, it is more faithful.
Behind the scenes, she carries an extraordinary load. She ensures that our website stays up to date and reflects who we are. She keeps our social media current and engaging. She creates and maintains our weekly e-news so that our congregation is informed and connected. Much of this work happens quietly, without fanfare, but it is essential to the life and vitality of our church.
And yet, Diana is far more than the sum of her tasks.
She is a trusted sounding board and confidant. In moments of discernment, she listens deeply. In moments of uncertainty, she offers clarity. She has a way of naming what needs to be said, with both honesty and care, so that we can continue moving forward in ways that are thoughtful, grounded, and faithful.
She also brings something equally important: joy.
Diana’s humor lightens the load on even the busiest days. Her presence creates space for laughter in the midst of our ministry together. She reminds our entire staff that the work of the church, while sacred and important, can also be filled with joy. And she laughs at my jokes...at least that's my version of the story.
In every sense, Diana embodies what it means to serve with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love.
Diana, I am deeply grateful for you, for the work you do, the spirit you bring, and the ways you help shape my ministry in this church every single day. Your gifts make a difference. And having your support is a blessing.
With gratitude and celebration this Administrative Professionals Day…and always…thank you!
